The Scottish boiler

 

This boiler is mainly used on ships. It is a combination of fire-tube and tank-boiler. The boiler has a very small footprint what explaines the attraction to ship-builders. This boiler originates from something like 1830.

These boilers were often fired with oil in stead of coal.
